DEFINITION

Democracy in Indonesia in the last 10 years has shown its decline. This happened partly because there was no strong opposition in the House of Representatives (DPR). Making strategic political decisions such as changes to the institutional structure of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) (revision of the Corruption Eradication Commission Law), drafting the Job Creation Law, Establishing the National Capital (IKN), drafting Government Regulations in Lieu of Laws (Perppu) for the Covid-19 Pandemic Emergency, and The APBN is running without going through the proper legislative procedures.

The form of democratic decline in Indonesia is also marked by resistance to criticism expressed by citizens. The inappropriate use of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE) has become a threat for citizens to express criticism.

Discordant voices about postponing the election and the emergence of talk of extending the government term by more than five years have also muddied the situation. For this reason, KEMITRAAN strengthens its work to prevent the decline of democracy and protect human rights (HAM) by redirecting reform to the spirit of constitutionalism.
